Летняя школа
В целях поощрения китайских молодых ученых и студентов в освоении методологии антропологических исследований в чужой стране, Майкл Херцфельд (Michael Herzfeld), профессор социальных наук в Гарвардском университете, совместно доктором Юй Хуа Института лингвистики ШУИЯ, инициируют Летнюю школу для изучения этнографии искусств, включая искусство ведения полевых работ в чужой стране, культурных описания и интерпретации в полевых условиях, и исследовательская этика.
В программе летней школы будут включать составление заметок и эскизов, получение разрешения на полевую работу в неизвестных ситуациях, с родословной, и запись истории жизни. Мы предложим три призы за самые интересные фотографии и самые неожиданные этнографические наблюдения в конце семинара.
Как команда, мы проведем пять летних дней вместе, делясь лекции, идеи, критику, замечания, и вдохновения. У нас будет трех-дневный интенсивный семинар, однодневный учебник и сессии городского Полевая экскурсия на пятый день.

Summer Workshop: Anthropology Away from Home
In order to encourage Chinese young scholars and students to do anthropological research in a foreign country, Prof. Michael Herzfeld, Ernest E. Monrad Professor of the Social Sciences at Harvard University, in collaboration with Dr. Yu Hua at SISU, initiated and designed the summer workshop to explore the arts of ethnography, including the art of doing fieldwork in a foreign country, cultural description and interpretation in the field, and research ethics.
The 5-day workshop is consisted of 3-day intensive workshop of lectures, students-led critiques, questions and students’ presentations and discussions. Then there will be one-day tutorial sessions and one-day field excursion in Shanghai and field notes discussion. Exercises will include note-taking, sketching, getting permission to do fieldwork in unknown situations, taking a genealogy, and recording a life history. We will offer three prizes for the most interesting photos and most unexpected ethnographic observations at the end of the workshop.
As a team, we will spend five summer days together, sharing lectures, ideas, critiques, observations, and inspirations. We will have a three-day intensive workshop, a one-day tutorial session and the urban field excursion on the fifth day.

Please note: ectures and discussions will be conducted in English. Examples to illustrate ideas and samples used in exercises will be derived from a variety of languages/dialects.
